Board of Directors
Frank Barr, FCA - Frank Barr is an independent chartered accountant and business consultant with extensive experience in the private, public and voluntary sectors as a director and in senior financial positions. He is a past chair of the Risk Management and Governance Board of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and a past president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia.
Andrew Day - graduated with a law degree from Queen's University and a PhD in Resource and Environmental Management from SFU. Andrew specializes in strategic planning, policy, and organizational development. With past work experience ranging from commercial fishing to smoke-jumping to assisting treaty negotiations, Andrew is skilled at bringing disparate groups together and creating working relationships that benefit everyone involved.
Most recently Andrew has served as the Executive Director of the Westcoast Aquatic Management Board, a body mandated to implement an ecosystem approach to managing aquatic resources. The AMB is the first of its kind in Canada and is a unique example of governments and groups working towards common objectives. Andrew has also been a key figure in the development of the goose barnacle fishery on the West Coast.
Larry Johnson - Huu-ay-aht First Nation member, past Councillor Forestry/Fisheries Portfolio for Huu-ay-aht First Nation, Natural Resource Manager Huu-ay-aht First Nation, current Huu-ay-aht First Nation Economic Development Manager. Larry is also a Commissioner on the International Pacific Halibut Commission
Mick Farup - Director of Operations, Pacific Seafoods. Starting with Oakland Fisheries in 1977, Mick was involved with Salmon, Herring and Ground fish processing. In 1981, he moved to their sister company Pacific Seafoods International Ltd., to manage their value-added seafood products; primarily smoked salmon. In 1985, Mick became President of the company and began orchestrating its rapid growth, expanding from producing its own brands to private label and custom processing other well established brand names. Mick brings with him 30 years of processing and administrative experience in the fishing industry.
Dave Smith - Seafood Development Biologist, Loligo Enterprises. Over 40 years of experience as a senior manager in fisheries and seafood development and diversification. Strengths include business, technical and biological seafood skills in harvesting, processing and marketing, and experience leading cross- functional teams for project management.
Dave Smith was employed with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries where he was responsible for the federal-provincial Fisheries Development and Diversification Program. He was also involved in the commercial seafood industry as a salmon and herring fisherman and owner/operator of Ucluelet Fishing Company. His early experience was with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as an invertebrate stock assessment biologist at the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo, B.C. In addition, Dave has familiarity and experience with the seafood industry in the province as well as operations on the east Coast of Canada, U.S.A. Europe and Asia. Currently, Dave is employed as the Executive Director of the Coastal Community Network.
